The next few steps involve gluing off and lining the back or spine of the textblock. First the sewn textblock is knocked up flat to the back and square to the head and clamped securely, spine up, into a finishing press.

 

Gluing off spine:

Here Craig is gluing off the spine with PVA using a foam roller.

Applying kozo:

Next a strip of thin kozo fiber paper is positioned onto the glued spine.

Stippling spine:

The dry kozo paper is stippled onto the spine using a stiff bristle brush.
